Typhoon Season - Masts Down July 1st
From July 1st to October 1st, the Club rule is that all masts
should be lowered and secured when you're not at the Club. This vastly
reduces the chance of serious boat damage during high winds. The only
exception is for the Tigers - their stiffer rigging means their masts
don't wave about in the wind. The Tiger Fleet Captain will make the
call if the Tiger fleet needs to lower their masts if a large storm is
approaching.
All boat owners should now ensure that their boat is well tied down -
use at least 4 anchor points and make sure your tie down ropes are long
and strong enough. Lash your cover on well and check your insurance is
up to date.
Club Regatta - Results & Thanks
A mixed fleet of Hobie 16s and Tigers took to the waters of Tai Tam Bay
and sailed 8 races in the 2009 HKHC Club Regatta. Winds blew steadily
from the south-west and picked up in strength over the weekend, with
the last races on Sunday seeing several capsizes and twin wiring
speed. Chris Howarth was the Race Officer for the weekend, ably
assisted by Jeff Lindstrom and Mrs. Lindstrom on Saturday, and Ah Chuen
on both days. Chris Giacomelli cooked up a storm to feed the hungry
sailors on Saturday. Thank you all.
Day prizes were given for the best results in each fleet on
Saturday and Sunday - Karl Chan sailing with Kit Tong picked up the
Hobie 16 prizes on each day, and Peter & Brenda Davies collected
the Saturday and Sunday Tiger prizes. First overall (and top Tiger)
was... Peter & Brenda Davies, with Christian Wright/Kimberly Lo
2nd overall, and Karl Chan/Kit Tong 3rd overall (and top Hobie 16).
